What is Functional Medicine?

Functional Medicine is an evolution in the practice of medicine
that provides better tools to address the healthcare needs of the 21st century.

Through genomic and network-biology research, we understand that diseases are interconnected on the root-cause level, sharing common genetic and biologic pathways. Functional Medicine addresses health at this deeper level.

Old approach

Convetional Medicine

The conventional method of viewing diseases as isolated "silos" and treating conditions with individual medications that only address symptoms, is outdated.

New approach

Functional Medicine

Links symptoms and conditions from a root cause perspective, using targeted, advanced lab testing and thorough history taking to assess physiologic dysfunction.

I am a medical doctor (MD) who is passionate about healthy living and optimized functioning of the human body

My life’s mission is to use scientific knowledge as a tool to maximize the human experience for myself and my patients. Life is precious, and I believe that science can help us all experience better, happier, and healthier lives, if we choose to implement scientific knowledge in an effective way.

Originally from Washington, DC, I headed west for college, and graduated with Honors from Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology, with a concentration in the Cellular and Genetic Basis of Disease. I completed my medical degree at Stanford School of Medicine, and subsequently trained to be a Head & Neck Surgeon at OHSU before transition to Functional Medicine.

My training with the Institute for Functional Medicine allows me to help you stay healthy and heal from within. We will look deeply into your unique health story and biology to identify the root causes of your health concerns.

I have spent thousands of hours in the operating room and hospital, and have seen almost everything that can go wrong in personal health. My Functional Medicine approach offers safe, effective, and natural interventions that address the root cause of disease.
